Natalie Sabie, 35, of Lacey Township, was indicted on the charge of aggravated manslaughter on Wednesday, April 5, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.
Sabie also was indicted on three counts of child endangerment and possession of fentanyl, Billhimer said.
On Sept. 7, 2022, Lacey Township police were called d to a residence for a report of a 2-year-old boy found to be unresponsive by his mother. Police and paramedics at attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful. The child was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where he was pronounced dead, Billhiimer said.
The investigation revealed that the child had access to illegaldrufs while in his mother’s care, and that two other minor children resided in the home at the time, the prosecutor said.
On Oct. 12, 2022, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office received the toxicology report, which revealed the presence of a significant amount of fentanyl in the child’s system, Billhimer said. Based upon this report, a forensic pathologist made a determination that the child’s cause of death was acute fentanyl intoxication, he said.
On Oct. 14, 2022, Sabie was taken into custody and charged in connection with the death of her son. Sabie has been held in the Ocean County Jail since her arrest.
